Basic skills & critical insight into conducting interviews.

In A Nutshell: On-camera and audio interviews differ greatly from the traditional interview format in that they place both the interviewer and the subject under a different – often more urgent and sometimes stressful – set of circumstances. Whether you're interviewing a guest in studio or an eyewitness live in the field, this course will give you critical insight and a basic skills set to tackle interviews more methodically and confidently, enabling you to emerge with a superior product or sound-bite.
Course Outcomes: By the end of the course, trainees will be able to:
• Understand the psychology of the interview process and use it to their favour;
• Establish interview expectations and outcomes for both themselves and the interview subject;
• Negotiate an interview and deal with conflict and / or tension that may arise;
• Understand ethical considerations for interview settings;
• Prepare themselves and their subject for the interview process;
• Successfully conduct a field interview;
• Successfully conduct a studio interview; and,
• Understand the difference between the interview as a narrative aid and the interview as an information piece and employ the appropriate techniques for the circumstance and desired end product.
