Interactive stories are now a must for news websites. Integrating video, audio, maps and social media is more simple than ever. This course will explore the emerging trends in digital storytelling and you will learn to do these yourself cheaply or for free.

This hands-on course covers:

  • The good, the bad and the ugly – how some publishers do it, great and others need work;
  • Digital elements of the stories – videos, maps, audio, instagram and vine video;
  • How to put them all together into true multimedia stories;
  • What kind of story to use timelines on;
  • Drawing in tweets, maps and videos into timelines;
  • Using archival material and the latest media;
  • Social media optimisation – making each element sharable;
  • The latest research on what and why people share;
  • How to engage the audience;
  • What social platforms to be using as well as tools and techniques;
  • Using social media, polls, quizzes, games and live-blogging;
