Description An intensive writing course drawing on different genres to develop advanced skills for senior writers on print publications. The techniques learned in this course will enhance reportage, personality sketches and profile writing, as well as political and travel pieces. Skills developed in the course will be applied to major stories on the continent, too. Some news experience is necessary to benefit from this programme. Opinion pieces and analysis will not be covered. Target market Experienced journalists and senior writers with a keen interest in writing. Objective To provide senior journalists on print publications with advanced writing techniques for covering pressing topics of the day. Outcomes Knowledge of techniques from different genres of writing. Development of skills of expression in writing. Ability to apply different devices to current topics. Content Techniques and lessons from reportage, fiction genres and travel writing. The power of description. Letting character speak. Drawing on different genres. Exploring new ways to cover major stories of the day.
